Welcome to Our World

Welcome to our new world. For the past two years we have been trying to create our family. We are a couple going through male sterility, and after one year of IUI's with donor sperm, we are moving into the adoption phase and our adopted life.

We are just at the beginning and we are going to document and share the entire journey as we grow and create our family through love and adoption. This does not have to be a lonely journey and the more you share and open yourself up, the more you find other couples and individuals going through infertility and sterility. You can learn more about us in the Our Story tab.

Our goal is to be as honest and humble as possible through this exciting and terrifying process, in the hopes to inspire others and create a place for all of us to come together and share and support each other as we face our own personal journeys to create a family.

  1. Glad you are here! It takes courage to share so openly and honestly.

My DH & I are building our family through adoption as well. After years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, the result was "unexplained" infertility. Our age (late 30s) likely played a part.

At any rate, like you, we journey through the loss & look hopefully into the future forming our family through adoption.

There are many wonderful ways to adopt: foster/adopt, domestic, international (SN/NSN). We met with multiple agencies & spoke with adoptive families exploring our options. Ultimately, we were drawn to China and felt it was the best fit for us.

At the time our paperwork was submitted we were told it would take 15-18 months to be matched with a child. Well, that didn't happen. International adoption has slowed down greatly since we started, and so far we've been waiting over 4 years.

It may sound crazy, but our hearts are still very much connected to a child in China so we plan to stay the course. The best thing is that both of us feel the same way about sticking with it and dream of the day we meet our daughter.

Adoption is not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure. We've learned to stay positive, and that patience is a must. Until our day comes, we keep busy and battle the low moments. And as you can imagine, the ability to lean on one another is key.

Who knows, maybe somehow the infertility challenges we faced helped prepared us for the twists and turns that come with adoption. Anyhow, we remain confident that there is joy and a whole lot of love to be shared, now and in our future.

I wish the very best for you two and hope the day you meet your child comes quickly!

  2. Hi Kate,

Thank you so much for sharing. It feels so good to have somebody say something, if that makes since. We have been private for a year now and this is our "coming out." We met with agencies last fall, and moved forward in April this year with domestic adoption after choosing the agency right for us. We are in the paperwork process.

Depending on how it all works out, we hope to do two more adoptions, each international. We completely understand your tie to China. We have strong connections to Thailand and India, and are aware those are long wait countries as well, but like you, we have a personal draw.

My friend who is an adoptive mother of two boys says the same thing, it takes a special person to adopt and not everyone can do it.

Thank you so much for reaching out! We will keep you in our thoughts as well as you wait for your child!

  3. I am so glad that you have chosen to come out and share. I understand so much about what you have been through and will face in the future. I have four amazing children thru domestic adoption and it was all worth it. My husband and I stayed anchored in our dream and persevered. I have a blog as well documenting our journey and it was so helpful for me to blog. It was a release. I have met amazing people. Stay strong. Your time is coming.
